For two days, the elite series of Formula Drift resided in Orlando… things got slideways.
Our first Formula Drift rodeo was a pretty cool experience. With tire smoke in our lungs and rubber coating our skin, we watched as the pros got sideways, hit walls, lost tires, and busted a carbon fiber wing. It was awesome.
240s roamed everywhere, on the track and outside of it… probably the biggest sighting of running 240s ever. Two unexpected drift missiles consisting of a C6 Vette and Dodge Viper took the ring and did pretty well. Who says Corvettes can’t drift? Psh. Our favs would probably have to be the two rotary-powered MX5’s. Mad Mike’s twin-turbo 4 rotor was glorious in person, and Kyle Mohan’s 3 rotor was almost equally as glorious… except, you know, it lacked that extra rotor. The Viper was probably my second fav, just because Viper.
We met a few of the drivers. Mad Mike is a pretty cool guy, who was quite surprised when I told him I owned an RX8. Let’s just say, we held up the signing line for a good few minutes. Ryan Tureck and Kyle Mohan were the other too, equally as cool.
Only regret: not getting media passes. Definitely a must for next year!
