Luftgekühlt 2025: A Dream Car Show Experience

In the grand scheme of car shows, there are few that I would buy a plane ticket, rent an AirBnB, and uber around a city for… but Luftgekühlt is one of those few. Everyone knows it as the prestigious, air-cooled Porsche show where you can spend all day wandering around and looking at cars that used to be on your bedroom posters, just out of reach. At Luft though, you get to live out your dreams just a little bit, getting up close and personal to that old 911 that looks exactly like the one you used to (and still do) drool over. The experience is truly surreal, surrounded by fellow enthusiasts who share the same passion and admiration for these classic machines, united by their love for Porsche.

Being held on the west coast of the United States more often than not, my dream of attending the show was just like those bedroom posters, out of reach. Each year I would eagerly watch the social media posts roll in, showcasing the incredible cars… until 2025, when Luft announced that the show would be held in North Carolina for the first time ever. Imagine my excitement when that out-of-reach dream suddenly became very much within reach. Fast forward to a two-hour plane ride to North Carolina, where I was armed with my backpack full of camera gear and a charming little place to stay about 15 minutes from the show campus. The beginning of fall added a crispness to the air that set the stage for a memorable weekend. As we arrived, the anticipation of finally being part of such a revered event made my heart race.

When the day of the show finally arrived, there was an undeniable excitement in the air. The sprawling venue was filled with a stunning array of vehicles, each with its own unique story and history. You could spend hours soaking in the sights. There’s something about being surrounded by so many beautiful air-cooled Porsches that brings out a sense of nostalgia and appreciation for automotive craftsmanship.

There’s not much else to say other than the show fulfilled my expectations and then some. The cars came in droves, and it was undeniably one of the most respectful car shows I have ever attended. Attendees treated the vehicles with care and reverence, and the owners happily engaged in conversation. Pro tip: pay the extra money to access the show 2 hours early. That small investment allows you to enjoy the cars at a leisurely pace, snapping pictures and truly immersing yourself in the vibrant atmosphere before the larger crowds arrive. Overall, attending Luftgekühlt was not just about admiring beautiful cars; it was an experience that reignited my passion for cars and reminded me of the joy of fulfilling my dreams.
